Neighbors Helping Neighbors 2017

A Recap of our Annual Fall Fundraiser Dinner & Auction!

Nhn 2017

This year’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors Dinner & Auction reminded us of how fortunate we are to be part of the West Seattle community. Over 210 of our friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues joined us at the Hall of Fauntleroy. We had a lovely cocktail hour, where we bid on silent auction items, played wine ring toss, entered raffle tickets, and sipped on local wine, beer, and a signature cocktail, while listening to high school jazz quintet, 5 Feet Up.

We all had so much fun having bidding wars over exciting live auction items, savored delicious entrees courtesy of Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes Catering & Events, and sprinted for dazzling desserts from local bakeries during our Dessert Dash. We were all moved by board member, Cinda Stenger, talk about the West Seattle Helpline’s excellence this past year, and how we have helped our neighbors in the West Seattle community. We heard inspiring words from KOMO News Radio anchor, Gregg Hersholt, who talked about how he and his wife, Maureen, were involved with the Helpline since the beginning when it was founded, and how much we have grown since his as President of our Board of Directors from 1992-1995.

We congratulated our second annual Neighbor of the Year award recipient, David Sochenda, for his compassion, kindness, and steadfast service to our neighbors!

We had such a wonderful and heart-felt evening. We are super excited to announce that we raised over a record-breaking $121,000, making this year’s event our largest fundraising event ever! Because of your generosity and continued support to the West Seattle Helpline and our neighbors, these funds will continue to put a stop to homelessness through our emergency assistance programs, to ensure than none of our neighbors sleep on the streets.

Once again, local businesses and organizations amazed us with their generosity by providing enough in sponsorship contributions to cover all of the expenses for the event. This means every dollar raised from ticket sales, auction bids, raffle tickets, the wine ring toss, raise-the-paddle donations go directly to supporting low-income families in West Seattle as they recover from a crisis. We cannot thank our sponsors enough for their generosity!
