A Fond Farewell

A Message from Chris Langeler, Executive Director

Langeler Ws Helpline Headshot

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Neighbors,

I write you one last time as the Executive Director of the West Seattle Helpline.

It has been a joy and privilege to be part of this organization for the past two-and-a-half years.  In that time, we’ve quadrupled our staff, doubled our volunteer corps, and most importantly: we’ve doubled the number people we serve per month.  I’m proud of these accomplishments and of everyone on our team--board, staff, volunteers, supporters, and partners--who made this possible.

Beyond our growth, it has been such an honor to meet and learn the stories of so many members of our community that we’ve helped: the mom who stayed at her child’s hospital bedside for two weeks straight after his severe asthma attack; the school teacher who spent her lunch break picking up a winter coat at our clothing bank for a student because his family couldn’t afford one; the grandmother taking care of her four grandchildren after her daughter passed away--they exemplify resilience, grace, and compassion and have moved me in ways I cannot put into words.

These are our neighbors.  In our community and beyond it, none of them should have to sleep on the street.  No one should have to go without water, or heat, or electricity.  No child should be without a coat in the winter.  No one should fear for their health because they can’t afford the bus fare to see their doctor.

That’s why the West Seattle Helpline puts a stop to homelessness *before* these dangers arise.

I am so proud to have been a part of this organization’s history of care and compassion.  As I step down and make way for our next leader, I have one parting request:

Help us be there for a family in our community who needs us.

On average, it only takes us $320 to put a stop to homelessness *for a year* for a family of four.  To start my transition from staff member to supporter of the West Seattle Helpline, I've signed up to give $30/month.  For just a dollar a day, I can make sure a family right here in our neighborhood doesn’t have to live on the streets--and so can you.

Join me and the many generous members of our West Seattle community by signing up for a monthly gift or making a one-time donation I’ve been so lucky to see first-hand the heartwarming impact these gifts have on the lives of our neighbors.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being there for them and for the West Seattle Helpline.

Sincerely,

Chris Langeler
